How do I download a file with my Browser?
To download a file, say qry32_32.zip, from our site click on the
icon to the left of its' description.
Your WWW browser will give you the option to save the file. Save it in C:\Temp, for example. What you
will see next will depend on which browser you are using.
You can find a more detailed explanation by viewing either our Netscape Navigator, or Microsoft Internet
Explorer tutorial.

What do I do after I have downloaded a file?
Look at the file that was downloaded, is it a *.exe or a *.zip? This distinction is important because
they require different steps.
*.zip
- Make sure you know the name of the zip file and where it is located.
- In File Manager or Explorer, simply double-click it. If this does not work on your system then you
must unzip it manually, as follows:
- Open up WinZip.
- If you arrive in a screen with options accross the top, choose "Wizard".
- This takes you to a screen that says "Welcome to WinZip Wizard" click Next.
- From the list highlight the zip file you want to open, click Next.
- Follow the direction given by WinZip.
- At the end of the unzip, using File Manager or Explorer, go to the folder in which you chose to save
the unzipped file, and double-click the installation program, qry32_32.exe, for example. The installation program will guide you the
rest of the way (see the steps outlined below).
*.exe
- Make sure you know the name of the exe file and where it is located.
- In File Manager or Explorer, simply double-click it.
- Chisel Software's installations are self installing archives which lead you through the installation
process. You will be prompted to supply the following information:
- acceptance of license agreement
- destination directory specifying where files are to be installed
- option to backup replaced files.>
- option to add program shortcuts to the Start Menu
- option to view the Readme file.
The main difference between .zip and .exe is that you need a program to open one, and the other opens
itself. Either way you may have to use find to locate your uncompressed files.

How do I download using MS Internet Explorer?
This tutorial will guide you through the process of downloading a file with your Microsoft
Internet Explorer browser. Due to differences between operating systems and versions of software, the screen shots below may differ from
what you see on your computer. Don't worry though, the process of downloading should be nearly identical.
The first thing that you need to do is change the location that your browser is pointing to the WWW site
or FTP site that you'd like to download from. Depending on the site, there will be either a link stating 'click here to download'
or simply the name of the file in the form of a link (i.e. filename.exe). If you are downloading a file from our site you will
see a download icon. Click on the link and you will see this screen:

Mark the 'Save it to disk' button and click 'OK' and you will see this screen:

Where it says 'File name:', the name of the file being downloaded will appear. You want to put the
location to save the file to in the 'Save in:' window. Click 'Save' and this window will appear:

Remember, everytime that you check your mail, change locations with your browser or do anything that
requires your modem to transfer information, it will slow down the transfer rate of the file you are downloading. Once the file is done
downloading you need to go to the location of the file on your computer and install the file.

the file that you click on to download is of a type that Navigator recognises:

Where it says 'File name:', the name of the file being downloaded will appear. You want to put the
location to save the file to in the 'Save in:' window. Click 'Save' and this window will appear:

It may not have the 'Status' or 'Time Left' if Navigator doesn't know the size of the file. Remember,

Common Problems associated with downloading from the Internet.
Downloads Freezing:
Downloads can freeze, or be incomplete, due to a noisy telephone line, in which case reconnecting can improve your data communications.
The internet can occasionally exhibit a glitch as a result of too many people trying to surf and download at the same time. If you get
an incomplete download, you can try again later at a quieter time, or locate an alternative location for downloding our software. Chisel
Software's shareware products can found at many locations right around the world.
Click on the
icon to select a download site from a location near you.
Site is busy or "User anonymous access denied":
This means the site is overloaded or too many people at one time are attempting to download a file, you need to try again in a little
while.
Error 404 File Not Found:
This means that the link is broken because the file is either erased from that site or moved to a different location on that site. If
you find a broken link to one of our products please let us know by sending a short note to our webmaster@chiselsoftware.com.
Site not responding:
This could mean a number of things. Most likely, the site is just busy and you should try again later. However, if you cannot access
this site after many tries, the site may no longer exist. Please let us know by sending a short note to our webmaster@chiselsoftware.com.
A Box appears saying there is no DNS entry:
Two things could be wrong. Make sure your Internet connection is working. Go back to the download page and press reload to check.
Second, the link is no longer pointing to a valid site, and it must be fixed. Please let us know by sending a short note to our webmaster@chiselsoftware.com.

Common Problems after you have downloaded a file.
Be sure and check out our decompression tutorials File Formats.
Locating your file after the download:
If you were not given the opportunity to choose a saving location prior to download you may not know where your file is located. To find
your file go back to the address you used to download and get the name of the file. Then use FIND in your start bar to locate the file.
Data-Fork:
A "Data-Fork" message is a Macintosh message. This usually mean that a Mac is trying to load PC software or that a PC is
trying to load Mac software. These are conflicting operating systems (PC & MAC) so they won't run each other's software without an
interpreter or software that is designed to run on either system.
Bugs and Enhancements:
If you experience something you think might be a bug in our produts, please report it to us. Describe what you did, what happened, what
version you have, any error messages you received, what kind of computer you have, which operating system you're using, and anything

From time to time, everyone comes up with an idea for something they'd like their software to do
differently. If you come across an idea that you think might make a nice enhancement to one of our products, your input is always
welcome.
